Aragón has transformed its geographical location into a genuine economic asset. Its logistics network is built on strategic infrastructures such as PLAZA, PLHUS and PLATEA, as well as rail, road, air and maritime connections that explain why logistics here is not merely supportive—it is strategic.
PLAZA, located in Zaragoza, covers 13,457,239 m² and is recognised as the largest logistics platform in Europe. PLHUS exceeds 1.1 million m², while Teruel’s logistics and industrial development is centred around PLATEA, with approximately 260 hectares under development and closely linked to the Teruel Airport ecosystem.
The region is also home to the Zaragoza PLAZA Rail Logistics Centre, the largest freight terminal in Southern Europe, spanning 755,000 m², and supported by a network of more than 80 weekly freight rail connections to Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao.
The significance of this logistics infrastructure becomes even clearer when looking at the companies that operate within these hubs. PLAZA hosts major international and national firms including Amazon, DHL, Inditex, BSH Home Appliances, Mercadona, Decathlon, Grupo Sesé and Carreras.
The economic weight of Aragón’s logistics sector is also reflected in the turnover of its leading companies. In 2023, Trans Sesé reported sales of €371.8 million, Carreras Grupo Logístico reached €294.6 million, and Marcotran Transportes Internacionales recorded €172.9 million.
Another key component is the Zaragoza Maritime Terminal, which plays an important role in Aragón’s international trade activity. Its 2023 accounts linked a decline in activity to lower alfalfa exports and reported an 18% reduction in container volumes and a 21% decrease in rail traffic, illustrating how closely the terminal’s performance is tied to the region’s real economy.
